Jonathan “Luna” Katz, a former manager at a telecommunications company in Burlington County, NJ, pleaded guilty on March 12, 2024, for his role in a subscriber identity module (SIM) swapping crime. Katz stole customers’ SIM numbers, which he then gave access to an unnamed individual who used the SIM numbers to access customers’ private data and financial information. He was reportedly paid in Bitcoin for his providing unauthorized access to customers’ SIMs. Katz was charged with conspiracy and faces a sentence that carries five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
